After Neal Maupay scored in his second appearance for the Toffees, Andros Townsend spoke to talkSPORT about his Everton colleague.
The 26-year-old, who cost £16 million to bring from Brighton, has made an immediate impact at Goodison Park after scoring in the 1-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday.
Townsend does, however, acknowledge that, before to their joining forces on Merseyside, he “hated” Maupay.
The 31-year-old stated of the player, “You adore him when he’s in your changing room,” in a talkSPORT interview. However, as his opponent, you despise him to the core. He knows the dirty tricks of football and how to get under your skin.
Following Maupay’s goal, which gave Everton their first three points of the year, any bad feelings have undoubtedly vanished.

After receiving a feed from Alex Iwobi, the Everton No. 20 displayed great quickness to turn and shoot past Lukasz Fabianski to give the Toffees the win.
It was crucial for Frank Lampard and the Toffees because if Everton had lost seven straight Premier League games, pressure would have started to mount.
Fans of Everton will adore Neal Maupay.
If we’re being honest, Maupay is around a one in four striker with 27 goals in 104 Premier League games, so Everton supporters shouldn’t expect to see many goals from him.
However, we think the Frenchman’s dogged work ethic will win over the Goodison Park crowd.
The fact that Maupay, as Townsend puts it, “just gets under the skin of the opponent” and that he’s willing to put in a lot of effort for Everton make up a potent combination.
The man worth £16m is not Richardson.
But if Sunday’s performance is any indication, Lampard and Kevin Thelwell made a profit of £44 million by bringing him to Goodison Park to replace the £60 million Brazilian.
