Arsenal are not currently working on a midfielder transfer, but Spurs have recently expressed interest in him.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are not currently working on a transfer for Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie, but Tottenham were interested in him a year ago.
In his exclusive CaughtOffside column, Romano says we’ll have to wait and see if the Gunners look into a deal for McKennie in the future, but he’s not sure if the USA international is the type of player Mikel Arteta needs in that position anyway.
Arsenal was heavily linked with Youri
Tielemans and Douglas Luiz were both signed in the summer, so a midfielder could be on their radar again soon, but Romano doesn’t think McKennie will be a priority.
Spurs appear to have wanted McKennie on loan, but Juventus were unwilling to let the 24-year-old leave on a temporary basis.
Juventus’ Weston McKennie in action
“As of today, Arsenal is not working on a deal for McKennie; we’ll see in January,” Romano said.
“He was a target for Tottenham a year ago, but nothing came of it because Juventus refused to let him go on loan.”
“I believe Arsenal requires a more dynamic midfielder.”
Romano has previously stated his admiration for Tielemans, describing the Leicester City midfielder, who is about to become a free agent, as the ideal signing for Arsenal.
