Aston Villa will consider offers from ‘elite’ Champions League clubs for goalkeeper Emi Martinez, according to reports.
Argentina newspaper AS have reported that Villa have an ‘agreement’ with Martinez that they will evaluate offers from top European clubs if they arrive in the coming months. They add that Bayern Munich are interested in Martinez as the replacement for legendary goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
Martinez signed a new five-year contract with Villa at the start of the year after his top performances helped Argentina win the Copa America in 2021. Though, the latest reports claim that the club agreed during contract negotiations to consider offers from elite clubs if they landed during the run of his deal that is due to expire in 2027.
Martinez is currently in Argentina celebrating winning the World Cup with his nation, after he played a key role in La Albiceleste’s success in Qatar.
The 30-year-old made a crucial save in the final against France as he denied Kolo Muani in the final minute of extra time, before then saving Kingsley Coman’s spot-kick in the penalty shootout.
The Villa ‘keeper was awarded the Golden Glove during a ceremony after the final where Lionel Messi lifted the World Cup for Argentina.
It is unlikely that Martinez will return to the UK in time for Villa’s Boxing Day clash with Liverpool on Monday.
