Despite having been linked to a number of European teams this summer, including Aston Villa, Luis Suarez has said that he would play for his old club Nacional in the next campaign.
Suarez said that he had had “several offers” before to becoming a free agent after his contract with Atletico Madrid expired, but he would be seeking to stay in Europe.
He had a difficult time making an impression during his second season in the Spanish capital the previous year, but he still managed to contribute to 14 goals in 35 league games.

With 21 goals in 2020–21, he contributed to Atleti’s first La Liga championship in six years, and many teams would have been keeping an eye on him when his contract expired.
Suarez was frequently mentioned in connection with a reunion with Steven Gerrard after the latter joined Villa, particularly after Philippe Coutinho joined the squad on loan from Barcelona in January.

Suarez spoke of his future a few months ago, “Clubs from Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico called me, but I want to play at top competitive level again. “I’m concentrating on football in Europe. My thoughts are in Europe. Spain? I’m quite happy of my career here, therefore I obviously left a tremendous legacy. I have received some… proposals from here, but I am still analysing them. I want to see the project of being able to compete at a high level.”
Suarez may have been handed the chance to play in Europe’s most competitive league by Villa. Even though Suarez would provide a lot of experience and skill to the team, Gerrard has three attackers at his disposal in Ollie Watkins, Danny Ings, and Cameron Archer, thus Villa are well-stocked with centre-forwards heading into the new season.
Suarez, 35, revealed on Twitter that he has signed for Uruguayan powerhouse Nacional, which brings him back to the team where he made his debut 17 years ago. Suarez tweeted, “I am happy to wear my shirt again at @Nacional!” “We appreciate your support, everyone! BE SEEN SOON.
The former Liverpool striker will return to the club where he began his professional career in 2005 but Nacional did not disclose the financial details or the length of the contract. “Happy to have you home!” The club wrote in response to Suarez’s post.
