Aston Villa defender Frederic Guilbert has hinted that he could be closing in on a move away from Villa Park in the January transfer window.
The full-back has not featured in Villa’s first team at all this season after returning from a loan spell with French side Strasbourg in the summer. It now seems that a permanent move away from Villa Park is on the cards.
Reports from L’Equipe claim that Villa could be willing to accept a fee as low as £2 million in the current transfer window. He is understood to be training with the club’s U21 side and has featured in three Premier League 2 games this season.
Speaking back in December, Guibert revealed that he and his representatives were working on securing a move away from the club when the January window opens. I’ve never had a discussion with Unai Emery,” he told Alsa Sport’s Club 1906 show .”I can’t stay in this situation forever. We are studying the different possibilities with my entourage, whether it is a loan with an option to buy or a transfer.

“The only certainty is that I need to get playing time at a club to get back on track. That’s the most important thing for me.
“It’s no secret (that he’s on the transfer market). For the moment, there is nothing, but I am open to offers. I’m on the transfer market, what matters to me is to play and to find pleasure quickly.”
Guilbert has now taken to social media to send a hint that a move may be a step closer to happening. Posting on Twitter, the 28-year-old shared a post with a football, egg timer and praying emoji.
It led to a number of Villa fans replying with good luck messages to the full-back. Before falling down the pecking order at the club, he played a total of 32 times, scoring three goals and providing the same number of assists.
Which club he could be moving to is not yet clear, although it is reported that a move back to Ligue 1 is on the cards.
