Although Gallagher is back at Chelsea’s training facility to start preseason under Thomas Tuchel, his future is still very much in doubt.
To guarantee his spot in the England team for the World Cup in Qatar later this year, the 22-year-old has to be playing frequently, something Chelsea might not be able to provide.
N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ross Barkely, and Mason Mount are just a few of the players vying for space in Tuchel’s midfield.
Currently, rumours claim Chelsea is attempting to sign Matheus Nunes, a midfielder for Sporting.
According to rumours, Chelsea intends to make Nunes available to Sporting for £39 million with an additional £4 million in add-ons.

Stamford Bridge is now reportedly Nunes’ most likely destination, amid interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton, according to the Portuguese tabloid A Bola.
Gallagher will have to consider his alternatives if Nunes does decide to sign with Chelsea. Given the uncertainty surrounding Douglas Luiz’s long-term future at the club, Villa may be looking to add a new midfielder. Luiz has reached the final year of his contract at Villa Park and is a target for Italian clubs AC Milan and Roma.
