This is latest Aston Villa News with John McGinn e palining how he escape a brutal accident that might harm his career.
While playing for St. Mirren, Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn said he was a millimetre away from a career-ending injury.
Since joining Villa from Hibs in 2018, the Scotland international has played a major role in the club’s climb from the Championship. His path was nearly cut short in 2015 when a training ground event nearly ended in tragedy.
McGinn started his career at St. Mirren’s junior academy, where he went on to make 98 appearances and won the Scottish League Cup.

However, after a peculiar training ground incident during the 2014/15 season, his final year with the club came to an end suddenly.
McGinn, who was left with a slight scar from the accident, told Sky Sports, “I got jabbed with a training pole.” “We were conducting a possession exercise, (myself and) big Steven Thompson, and while we enjoyed a good laugh and a good jest, it was a serious drill.” I ran through the gates for a point, and the poles hit him as he chased me, so he didn’t notice me turn.
“He tossed it back at me, and it went in 7.7 centimeters.” It slammed through the bone and then sprang back out! It seemed strange at the moment; I was simply a little taken aback.”
“I didn’t realize it had touched the bone,” McGinn added, “but thankfully the doctor at St Mirren was in that day, which was lucky, but then I went to see the surgeon.” I thought I was done here since I was out of contract, but he sat back in his chair and exclaimed, ‘Lucky, lucky lad.’
“A centimetre from the femoral artery, and it would have been curtains,” he said. That would have been one hell of a funeral!”
McGinn missed the final five games of the season and was put in doubt as his contract came to an end.
Hibs eventually paid the compensation amount owed to St. Mirren, with McGinn helping the club win the Scottish Cup before Steve Bruce decided to sign the midfielder for £2.5 million to Villa Park.
He has subsequently played 148 appearances for Villa in all competitions, and was elected vice-captain of the club before of the 2021/22 season.
McGinn made 35 league appearances, starting every game he was available for despite competition for his spot.
