Aston Villa News: Villa fans fume at Steven Gerrard after Watford defeat

Some have questioned head coach Steven Gerrard in the aftermath of the team winning only one of their past seven games in all competitions.

After a 1-0 loss to Watford at Villa Park, Aston Villa fans are furious with head coach Steven Gerrard.

After a goalless first half, in which Emi Martinez made a fantastic save to deny Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis, the Nigerian international would not be denied in the second, tapping in the winner for Roy Hodgson’s side 12 minutes from time.

Gerrard was questioned immediately after winning only one of his past seven appearances in all competitions.

Following is a sampling of Villa supporters’ social media reactions to the result versus the Premier League strugglers.

Mat Kendrick believes Aston Villa have too many players who aren’t deserving of starting positions.

FabFur: Can confidently assume that the new management bounce has worn off after yet another lackluster performance.

Tactics Tim: I’m running out of goals. Painful.

Tom Rutherford: I honestly don’t think this squad knows how to score goals until we’re in transition.

Jonathan: We appear to be so vulnerable on the counter-attack that I’m afraid we’ll be hammered by a side with better talent in the final third before the season’s finish.

Copenhagen Villan: I thought we’d collect more than one point from our games against Newcastle and Watford… However, it appears that I was shooting far too high…

Rider, Beki ‘Bex’: The previous few games have been absolute rubbish. What had Young been up to?

Matt: Another setback. Purslow’s choice to throw everything at Gerrard appears to be a catastrophe. This is a blunder.

The Irish Villan: Excuse me, but these guys have everything to answer for in this situation. Apart from a few cameos by Buendia, PC, and JJ, what have they provided us in the previous three games? They’ve been nothing short of awful. Much more is owed to the fans and the club.

Sam the Villa Supporter: Gerrard is going to have to start answering questions shortly…
