Latest Aston Villa News: Aston Villa’s rivals are about to make a decision that will worry Steven Gerrard
Aston Villa won again this weekend, but the big news thus far has been Marcelo Bielsa’s impending exit from Premier League rivals Leeds United.
According to the Guardian, the Argentine manager is poised to leave Leeds after four years of outstanding service following the club’s latest Premier League thrashing, this time at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in a 4-0 defeat at Elland Road.
Leeds have now surrendered 14 goals in their previous three Premier League matches, according to the Guardian, and Bielsa is poised to leave the Yorkshire club, with Jesse Marsch taking over until the end of the season.
Indeed, such a decision doesn’t seem to be one that could affect Villa that much. However, with the two clubs set to meet very soon in the Premier League, the sacking of Bielsa and the appointment of Marsh could cause some bother for Villa.
Villa currently sit 12th in the Premier League with Leeds lagging behind the Birmingham-based club by seven points, and whilst there isn’t any danger of the Whites catching up with Gerrard’s side, the new manager bounce could play a role in the coming weeks.
Leeds could have Marsch in place in time for next Saturday’s Premier League clash against Leicester City, and with Villa coming up next the following Thursday, the Yorkshire side could easily shoot up the table in the coming days.
If Leeds beat Leicester and Villa fail to score against Southampton, the difference might close to four points, setting up a thrilling match on March 10th at Elland Road.
It may not appear so now, but Villa’s imminent exit of Bielsa and subsequent appointment of Marsch may see them pulled down the table if things don’t go their way, which would not be the first time this season for Gerrard’s team.
