Chelsea in contact with Bayern Munich for 23-year-old attacker

Bayern Munich might be interested in a late swoop for Chelsea forward Kai Havertz in the winter transfer window.

According to reputed Sacha Tavolieri, Bayern Munich might raid Chelsea in a bid to tempt Kai Havertz back to Germany in the January transfer window. The youngster could be on the line for an axe following Chelsea’s recent heavy deployment in the attacking unit.

Chelsea need to balance their books to avoid Financial Fair Play sanctions if they incur huge losses in the wake of the spending spree. Co-owner Todd Boehly has splashed close to £450 million on 14 players since the summer.

Bayern Munich lost Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona last summer, and Sadio Mane has not really burst onto the scene since his much-hyped transfer from Liverpool. Havertz has played the role of a centre-forward with utmost distinction, and he could emerge to be an alternative option.

Chelsea paid a fee of £72 million upfront which could further rise to  £90 million after counting a number of add-ons. But Bayern Munich are expected to counter an offer in a much-lower range, which would mean Chelsea will have to forego a huge portion of their invested amount.

Havertz has not displayed the form he showcased at Bayer Leverkusen. And a return to his home soil might tempt him. Bayern have a solid core group of young talents, and they can extend their monopoly this season, too, as things stand. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have contacted Chelsea for the 23-year-old attacker.

A formal approach is yet to be received by the west London club. And it could be a smash-and-grab opportunity for the German champions. Havertz is contracted to Chelsea until 2025, but a transfer can always be facilitated if the two parties are ready to reach a consensus regarding an imminent transfer.
