Chelsea have got their man and signed Wesley Fofana from Leicester City in a significant deal after many weeks of nail-biting anticipation.
The deal, which is said to be worth about €85 million, created a lot of stress at the Foxes, and Brendan Rodgers was obliged to substitute the centre back for certain games as a result of the disruption the Blues’ interest produced.
Since Chelsea needed to strengthen their backline after losing two of their regulars on free transfers earlier in the transfer window, this was always considered a dream move for Fofana.
Leicester ultimately gave in after being hammered by Thomas Tuchel and Todd Boehly, and Fofana, who had his physical in the US, sat down with L’Equipe to discuss what went on behind the scenes.

Regarding the cost, he stated that he is “trying not to worry about it” since doing so may create a lot of pressure very soon. Instead, he wants to focus on giving his all on the field when his new manager selects him.
Leicester, who didn’t necessarily want to sell, caused delays, and Fofana claimed that “there were moments of uncertainty” during which he was asking himself “a thousand things,” including whether or not he was making the correct decision.
However, he promptly made a promise to himself that he would fulfil one of his aspirations, which was to play for one of the top teams in the world. I opted to travel there in full, together with my family and my representatives. Even at the less than pleasant times, when the club was about to yell at me a little, they handled everything without any tension and made sure I understood every step.
Since the Lakers took additional precautions after his serious ankle injury, Chelsea requested that the Lakers’ physician oversee the entire procedure, which took “more than 10 hours.” This is why the physical was conducted in New York.
He said why he signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea: “I wanted to demonstrate my commitment to the team. Because I didn’t want to be distracted by such tales, we also didn’t want to be compensated for my image rights, and my agents successfully accomplished that.
When asked about Thomas Tuchel’s role in the procedure, Fofana responded, “I came here also in big part for him. He is a manager whose management and playing philosophy I like. With him, there is already a sense of trust. The systems of Leicester and Chelsea are extremely similar. They intend to utilise me in a three-man defence. I am capable of playing either right or centre. I’ll adjust in any case.
