On Christmas Day 2021, Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea are in third place in the Premier League standings due to a decline in results and performances.
The Blues were in first place for the majority of the first half of the season, but after eight out of a possible 15 points this month, Tuchel’s team has fallen behind Manchester City and Liverpool.
Here is a look at Chelsea League positions last 10 years on Christmas Day in 2021:
Chelsea has gone through at least 10 different managers throughout this time, from Carlo Ancelotti in 2010 to Tuchel at the present.
Only twice in the previous 10 years on December 25 have the Blues been in first place, and both times they went on to win the league. In the past, Chelsea has topped the Premier League standings on Christmas Day five times, and astonishingly, they have won the championship on each occasion.
Chelsea has consistently finished in the top four on Christmas Day since 2010, with fourth place accounting for five of those occasions. They finished fourth in 2010 but were just three points behind Manchester United at the time. However, the distance in 2018 was greater—they were 11 points behind leaders Liverpool.

Christmas Day in 2012 and 2017 saw Chelsea finish third in the standings. Both times, they were quite a distance from the top; in 2012, there were 10 points between Chelsea and Manchester United, while in 2017, there were an incredible 16 points separating the Blues from Manchester City.
The Blues’ humiliating 15th-place finish on Christmas Day 2015 became the team’s worst finish since 2010. They had a Premier League hangover from winning the championship the season before, making it a season to forget. Just a few days before Christmas, this resulted in the firing of club great Jose Mourinho.
Positively, Chelsea has won the title twice since 2010, both times after leading the league at Christmas, as they did in 2014–15 when they were three points clear of Manchester City.
The Blues were six points ahead of Liverpool on Christmas Day in 2016 under Antonio Conte.
And this season, the Blues are six points off league leaders Manchester City on Christmas Day.
