After Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez elbowed Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey, Bailey took to Twitter to reveal what the linesman told him.
Yesterday in the Midlands, Villa defeated Erik Ten Hag’s team, picking up an amazing victory.
The 3-1 victory against United in Unai Emery’s first game in charge was a great start for the new manager.
Within the opening 10 minutes of the match, Bailey gave the Villains a 1-0 lead with a goal.
United had gotten back into the game, but four minutes later Lucas Digne scored on a fantastic free-kick, and just after halftime, Jacob Ramsey added a third for the winning team.
Bailey turned up a strong performance, but he is upset with what transpired at the hour mark and how the referees handled it.
Bailey reveals the information provided to him by the linesman
After watching the ball go out for a goal kick, Martinez looked to slam his elbow into Bailey’s stomach.
After evaluating the incident in which Bailey was knocked to the ground by an elbow, the VAR decided to take no additional disciplinary action.
The 25-year-old has now tweeted what the linesman told him after the incident.
A red card was probably warranted for Martinez yesterday, as the Argentine looked to intentionally throw an elbow.
The ex-Ajax player is notorious for his aggressive play, but he really stepped on some toes the day before.
Yesterday, Bailey was a major issue for United’s defence, and Martinez seemed visibly dissatisfied with his team’s performance.
Getting a strong victory in Emery’s first game at Villa Park must make him very happy. On Thursday night, Emery’s team will travel to Old Trafford to take on United in the League Cup.
Ten Hag’s men will be looking to quickly recover from yesterday’s loss, so expect a heated contest.
