Harry Redknapp has shared his thoughts on former Tottenham Hotspur boss, Mauricio Pochettino, edging closer to becoming Chelsea’s new manager.
The Englishman has claimed that ‘it looks like Tottenham didn’t want’ Mauricio Pochettino, as he backed the Argentine to make Chelsea a ‘force again’, as he told Sky Sports News (14/05/23).
With stand-in coach Frank Lampard in the dugout, after the sackings of Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter this season, Chelsea are heading towards a bottom-half finish.
Whilst Spurs fans think they have issues with no manager or sporting director, then their London rivals have certainly raised their glass.
After spending over £500 million, those running the Chelsea ship have, somehow, made a group of players that were recently champions of Europe look like relegation contenders.
From a squad perspective, Pochettino will have some serious talent to pick from, it’s just a case of trimming the squad and smoothing things out, with Redknapp sharing his thoughts.
“It looked like Tottenham didn’t want him,” said Redknapp about Pochettino heading to Chelsea. “I think it’s a great job for him, to be fair.
“If he isn’t going to get the Tottenham job, then Chelsea are probably short of a couple of players. We all know they are short of a striker. They will get a couple in the summer and Chelsea will be a force again next year. It’s a great opportunity for him.”
TOTTENHAM FANS SHOULD BE ANNOYED WITH DANIEL LEVY FOR ALLOWING POCHETTINO TO GO TO CHELSEA
Tottenham’s season is rotting away following the sacking of Antonio Conte. Ever since Daniel Levy sacked Pochettino, months after they reached the Champions League final, the club has declined.
Senior players have fallen off a cliff, the style of play has gone out of the window, new signings haven’t worked and they are starting to fade further down the table.
The appointments of Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Conte haven’t worked. But is that down to those trophy-winning managers or Levy?
At the end of the day, amid the gloom of recent months, the Spurs chairman had an ample chance to knock on Pochettino’s door and bring the ‘magician’ back to north London, but Spurs fans now have to watch him possibly thrive and win the title at their rivals.
