Eddie Howe handed selection headache as Jamaal Lascelles returns to training with Newcastle United
As battle for positions heats up at West Ham, Eddie Howe must decide whether to designate his captain on the bench.
After recovering from sickness, Jamaal Lascelles has returned to training, giving Eddie Howe with a selection issue for this weekend’s game against West Ham.
The Newcastle captain played well in Newcastle’s 3-1 win over Everton last week, but he was left out of the 1-0 win over Aston Villa.

Fabian Schar and new recruit Dan Burn were Howe’s two centre-backs, with the Blyth kid, in the view of most football writers and commentators, earning man of the match.
With Kieran Trippier certain to miss the game against West Ham due to a foot injury, Howe will have to find a replacement for Lascelles.
Howe explained Lascelles’ absence by saying, “Lascelles had an ailment.”
“That was something he picked up in the previous few of days.”
“Great to be back in training,” Lascelles wrote on Instagram yesterday.
The skipper had been chastised earlier in the season, but he was involved in three of Newcastle’s four-match undefeated run.
