Latest Newcastle United News: Eddie Howe’s speech in team hotel shows how Newcastle mentality has changed
Before Newcastle United’s 2-0 win against Brentford in London on Saturday, Eddie Howe questioned his players if they wanted to be the hunters or the prey.
Eddie Howe offered Newcastle United’s ‘hunters’ extra encouragement at the team hotel before the win over Brentford, according to Ryan Fraser.
With a win in London on Saturday, the Magpies may not only move four points clear of the relegation zone, but also leapfrog the Bees into 14th place.
Not long ago, that was an unthinkable prospect. Brentford was actually 12 points ahead of Newcastle in the standings at one stage last month.
Newcastle, on the other hand, has since launched on their finest run in the Premier League in almost a decade, and Howe’s team was full of confidence heading into the encounter.
While the Magpies were well-informed about Brentford’s capabilities, notably from set-pieces, their main focus was on how they might harm the Bees out wide with overlaps and underlaps, demonstrating how the team’s attitude has evolved under Howe.
After Howe’s address, goal scorer Joe Willock stated his ‘hungry’ squad arrived with the ‘attitude’ that they were the hunters, and Fraser commented on that team talk after the 2-0 win against 10-men Brentford.
Before the game, the gaffer had a meeting at the hotel, and his comment was, “Do you want to be hunted or be the hunter?”” According to the club’s website, Fraser said.
“If we won, we’d leap three positions, so that little amount of incentive before we hit the ground was crucial. Now we must continue to play the role of the hunter and climb as high as we can.
“Although we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves, we can still finish quite high up in the table.”
