Everton have made a verbal offer to sign Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana who may be a direct replacement for Anthony Gordon, according to The Atheltic’s David Ornstein.
Ornstein reports that Everton are sure to be active in the final hours of the January transfer window buoyed by the £40m received for Gordon.
The transfer guru shared that Rennes want £26m for their prized asset and the Blues are waiting to hear back from the club for a response.
“Everton are also sure to be active in the last hours of the window. Buoyed by the £40million they received from Newcastle United for Anthony Gordon, they are attempting to reinvest some of the money straight away and buy a direct replacement in Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana,” as quoted by The Athletic. “Everton made a verbal offer on Sunday and were waiting for a response from Rennes, who want in the region of €30m to get the deal done.”
Makes sense.
The 20-year-old winger would be a like-for-like replacement for Gordon and certainly fits the bill for the kind of talent Evertonians would like to see the club sign.
His pacey and direct play is something this current Everton squad lacks and he would more than fill the void in the squad that Gordon has left.
The Ghanaian is a slight risk but isn’t every transfer nowadays? He’s far from the finished product but may be a chance worth taking.
Everton needs players in their squad who will fight for the club and there has never been a more crucial time for signings to come in and hit the ground running.
Whether Sean Dyche has had any say in this signing remains a mystery, the Blues haven’t even announced the former Burnley boss as their new head coach yet.
It’s this kind of uncertainty and frankly, poor management that gets fans riled up, the reason why he still hasn’t been announced is as good as anyone’s guess.
