However, in light of such remarks, the Dutchman has stated that he regrets ‘throwing away’ his chance at Goodison Park and earlier remarks regarding the club.
He told the Everton matchday programme, “I wrote the book immediately after my career and as I was narrating the anecdotes, I was back in that time.”
“I was a really aggressive person.” I spoke some hurtful and foolish things about Everton. I wasn’t thinking clearly.

“After I rested my head, I was able to see clearly.” I’m sorry for what I said. ‘Andy, man, you really screwed up,’ I thought a few years later.
“It’s a tremendous shame. I genuinely think about it a lot, you know? My football career is still fresh in my mind.
“I thought to myself, ‘Wow, guy, you’re very foolish.’ You were a superb player for Everton. Man, you really screwed up. You were so skilled, how could you mess this up?’
“I was thinking in childish ways.” I had the impression that everyone was against me, but this was not the case. I just did not pay attention. I made a mistake. “You’re a moron.”
“In my view, I would have done tremendous things for Everton,” he said before. And he has more than 17 caps for his country. But I had no choice at the time. After that, no conversation.
“I genuinely detest myself for not thinking like an adult.” “I was thinking in emotions, which is incorrect.”
Inter Milan sold the former Dutch international to the Blues in 2005. Van der Meyde only made 20 Premier League matches during his four years with the club before being dismissed in June 2009.
