The Daily Mail reports that Everton will continue negotiations with Burnley for striker Maxwel Cornet but will postpone any payments.
The Ivorian star’s interest in Everton was first reported yesterday (15 July), when Fraser Fletcher tweeted that the Toffees were prepared to pay his £17.5 million release clause.
Although The Daily Mail stated (16 July, p. 111) that the club wanted a delayed payment mechanism in the sale, they did confirm the interest.
It’s unclear how postponing the payments will influence Burnley’s need to accept the offer in accordance with Cornet’s contract’s release clause.
However, early on Saturday (16 July), Fabrizio Romano noted on Twitter that Burnley was getting ready for life without the ace.

All parties concerned would benefit greatly from a deal for Cornet, and Everton is justified in trying to sign the Ivorian.
After Richarlison was traded to Tottenham earlier this summer despite the player’s desire to play in the Premier League, the Toffees sorely need a front line revival.

Cornet would be the ideal addition for Everton considering their precarious financial situation if the rumoured fee of £17.5 million is genuine.
He had a fantastic first season in the Premier League, scoring nine goals for a lacklustre Burnley squad that finished last in the table.
The fact that he was putting up those kinds of figures for a squad known for lacking an aggressive edge suggests that he could improve his form if he played the major role for a more upbeat side.
Since James Tarkowski from The Clarets was already acquired by Everton this summer, Cornet will be able to fit in right away.
Given Cornet’s low cost, Everton is unlikely to find a better deal this summer, therefore Kevin Thelwell should make every effort to close the transaction.
