According to the Daily Mirror, Everton sources have officially ruled out a summer transfer for Chelsea playmaker Ross Barkley.
According to a story in the newspaper’s print version [02 August, p. 53], Frank Lampard wants two new players to join his midfield before the deadline.
Idrissa Gana Gueye is reportedly close to making that transfer, but Barkley won’t be joining them in returning to Merseyside before the deadline in September.
Chris McKenna revealed what he has learned from the blue side of Merseyside in recent days as speculation has grown in his most recent Daily Mirror piece.
Lampard has prioritised the midfield position and wants two fresh faces there, he wrote.
Idrissa Gueye, a former Toffee who is currently at Paris Saint-Germain, is one of the targets. According to sources close to the team, Ross Barkley has been disqualified.
Barkley’s recent career years haven’t been the finest of his life.

The England international has never quite found his niche at Chelsea, despite a passable loan stint under Dean Smith and with Jack Grealish at Aston Villa.
It is difficult to assess if the playmaker has had a fruitful route since leaving Goodison Park.
He has undoubtedly won many titles while playing for Stamford Bridge under a variety of managers, but did he have a significant impact in the acquisition of any of those players? No, we would argue.
To reverse the horrors of last season, Lampard needs players who will compete for the team’s jersey, and Barkley does not possess that quality.
Barkley would have a very difficult time this summer finding a new club ready to match his expected expectations, not to mention the significant amount of money it would probably cost in salary.
Everton won’t be it.
