Cesare Casadei has joined Chelsea this summer as the most recent promising young prospect.
Earlier in the transfer season, Carney Chukwuemeka and Omari Hutchinson joined the Blues. With the acquisition of 19-year-old Casadei, the club has made its most recent long-term investment.
The midfielder has committed to a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea paying an initial cost of £12.6 million, with the potential for a further £4.2 million in add-ons.
Nice made a last-minute bid to capture Casadei, but Chelsea has secured their man to keep the club’s hectic summer going.
The Italian, who has previously been linked to club icon Frank Lampard due to his goal-scoring prowess from midfield, has been urged to be patient by Thomas Tuchel.
The Blues manager downplayed the analogies and made it plain that Casadei won’t be thrust into the action right away, with the goal being to give the teenager time to adjust to his new environment.
Tuchel remarked, “I’m not so sure if we do him a huge favour by joining in this conversation (about his resemblance to Lampard).”
“I ran into him here in the building recently. We’ll give him some time right away to become acclimated, learn about Chelsea, the culture, how we go about our everyday lives, and how we train.
We’ll offer him the chance to practise with us and demonstrate his abilities once he’s established in. Then we will evaluate him, and I will have a better understanding of him. After that, we’ll see.
