Chelsea is eager to capitalise on Frenkie de Jong’s hesitation to sign with Manchester United this summer, but doing so would cost them Conor Gallagher, an academy product. The midfielder made an impression when on loan at Crystal Palace last year, and he apparently wants to come back to the team.
Gallagher made 34 Premier League games for Patrick Vieira’s team last season, contributing to three goals and eight assists. This caught the attention of Gareth Southgate, who gave the playmaker his England debut. The 22-year-solid old’s performances gave Thomas Tuchel’s team faith that he would play a key role this year.
But so yet, that hasn’t happened, and if De Jong decides to leave Barcelona, Gallagher may move lower down the Stamford Bridge pecking order for him to make move to chelsea.
The arrival of the Dutchman, according to The Mirror, may result in Gallagher being loaned out. Palace is ‘confident’ that they are in prime position to re-sign the midfielder.

Both West Ham and Newcastle are interested in the Chelsea academy product because they want to enhance their midfield depth. Although Gallagher’s successful time at Selhurst Park in the past may be a deciding factor if all teams make offers and the player must choose where his future lays.
Palace is reportedly the player’s preferred destination if he becomes unnecessary for the Blues, and a deal “may be concluded upon by the weekend.”
Gallagher was frequently complimented by Tuchel throughout the previous season, and it appeared that there was a “understanding” that he would play for his old team in the upcoming year.
When asked about Gallagher’s future before the end of the last campaign, Tuchel responded, “This will happen in the summer since we all agreed that we wanted to move him to Palace. He perceived a chance for himself.
“I am not shocked that the national coach adores him since I have been a lifelong fan. A good person who always has a grin on his face, is humble, kind, and eager to learn and grow. I would have liked to play with him as a teammate. Knowing him is a pleasure, and I’m thrilled with how nicely things have turned out. He must keep his feet firmly planted.
Whether De Jong’s final does become crucial for Gallagher’s future or whether he will still search for an escape is yet to be seen. He has just played six minutes of competitive football in Chelsea’s first two games of the season, so he could be unwilling to stay on the bench first-team fringes for an entire campaign.
