‘Frustrating’: Gary Neville Says Aston Vlla have thesame problem as Manchester United

Gary Neville told Sky Sports that watching Aston Villa and Manchester United in the last 15 minutes of a game is’massively stressful.’

The pair are ‘awful’ at chasing games, according to the former England defender, as they demonstrated recently against Newcastle and Southampton.

On Sunday, Villa were defeated 1-0 at Newcastle, while United were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton at Old Trafford.

While Villa’s reluctance to chase down a game was not on display when they battled back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Man United last month, they were far from their best at St James’ Park.

Neville, who was watching from the commentary box, stated what irritated him about Villa’s performance, something he had seen with his old club.

“In the last 15 minutes, they were tremendously irritating for me,” Neville remarked. “After watching Manchester United, it seems to be a recurring pattern.”

“Awful at tracking down the game. Trying to achieve an objective. Fouls are being given away. Forcing it to happen. Crossing it from a low-income region.

“In the last 15 minutes, Villa actually did that. By wasting time on throw-ins and free kicks, they enabled Newcastle to control the last 15 minutes. Giving out free kicks. Bookings.

“In the last 10-15 minutes, I felt it was extremely bad.” Steven Gerrard, I believe, will be irritated by this. I believe he would want to be more composed on the field.”

As the game against Newcastle came to a close, Steven Gerrard was slumped in his chair, expressing exactly how every Villa supporter felt.

The side has had a poor run of performances in recent weeks, and adjustments will be required on Saturday.

Watford will pay a visit to Villa Park, with Roy Hodgson hoping to win his debut game as the Hornets’ manager.
