Gary Neville thinks Tottenham Hotspur players don’t look happy right now but is still backing them to challenge Liverpool for the final Champions League spot.
Neville has told The Gary Neville Podcast that he thinks Tottenham just don’t look nearly as happy as they have in recent times.
Yet the Manchester United legend still thinks Tottenham have a great chance of finishing in the top four.
Neville highlighted that boss Antonio Conte just knows how to get results and get his teams over the line – just as he did last season.
Neville believes that Conte makes Tottenham the most dangerous threat to Liverpool in the race for the top four.
Conte is set to return to Tottenham this week having been recuperating from gallbladder surgery over in Italy.
Neville clearly thinks this is a pivotal moment for Tottenham and it could be the springboard for a run of late-season form.
Looking at Tottenham they could still finish top four because Conte just has a way of getting over the line,” said Neville. “They don’t look as happy as a bunch as they were before, but I think it will be Liverpool or Tottenham. This will give Liverpool real confidence of getting that fourth place. I don’t think Newcastle will do it, I think Tottenham are the only other ones because of Conte’s experience and know-how and he’s been around the block enough times, so he’s the one that’s most dangerous for me,” he added.
ANTONIO CONTE HAS CONTRIBUTED TO TOTTENHAM MOOD
We know Tottenham have some great players in their squad and their battle with Liverpool should be fascinating.
Yet something just doesn’t seem quite right at Tottenham and we think a large of part of the blame should actually go to Conte.
Conte hasn’t really seemed fully invested in the Tottenham project for a while now and seems to want major spending that just isn’t going to come from Tottenham.
How many Tottenham players have really improved under Conte? It’s hard to point to too many, especially this season.
Conte clearly made an impact last term but the brand of football hasn’t really been entertaining and there are doubts over Conte actually wanting to be there.
It’s hard for Tottenham fans to really buy into this current offering from Spurs and whilst they sit in the last Champions League spot right now, recent displays leave Spurs supporters feeling a little pessimistic.
