According to a club source, West Ham United are ‘preparing to let’ defender Craig Dawson to go in the January transfer window.
The Hammers spent £158 million during the summer transfer window, setting a new high for the London Stadium club.
West Ham have signed Alphonse Areola (on loan), Nayef Aguerd, Flynn Downes, Gianluca Scamacca, Maxwel Cornet, Thilo Kehrer, Emerson Palmieri, and club-record signing Lucas Paqueta, however rumours indicate that there may be some action mid-season.
West Ham are considering a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk star Tete, for example. Some Irons players, though, may be on their way out in order to balance the budget following some recent big spending.
According to reports, Dawson, who is keen to go farther north for family reasons, may depart in the winter.
The Latest: An insider provides an update on Dawson’s leaving…
Irons fans have been given an update on the 32-year-position, old’s with his contract scheduled to end in 2023 as things currently stand.
Dawson is said to be considering a transfer away from east London for personal reasons, and the club and GSBK (David Gold, David Sullivan, Karren Brady, and Daniel Kretinsky) seem to have reached a choice.
According to Claret & Hugh, West Ham are “preparing to enable” the Englishman to go north in January. This comes as the club continues to try to reach a new contract deal, but it remains ‘unlikely’, and manager David Moyes may have to prepare himself for the loss of a crucial player.
Moyes would take a hit if West Ham allowed Dawson to go in the middle of the season.
Dawson has been outstanding since his arrival to the London Stadium in 2020, appearing in 50 games in all competitions last season alone and quickly becoming an important element of the club (Transfermarkt).
Last season, no West Ham player made more blocks per 90 minutes than Dawson, while only Kurt Zouma averaged a greater rate of clearances, demonstrating Dawson’s defensive value (WhoScored).
The media have dubbed the 32-year-old’sensational,’ so losing him would be bad news for the Hammers, even if the player’s motives for desiring a change of scenery are understandable.
