According to Sky Sports writer Dharmesh Sheth, Frenkie de Jong is now in London amid transfer rumours and is a target for Chelsea and Manchester United.
Although it’s unknown if the midfielder being in the city may signal that he’s about to depart Barcelona, the former Ajax player has been linked to the Premier League rivals throughout the transfer window.
Although the Dutch international is United’s top target, Chelsea also needs midfield reinforcements and entered the competition early this summer.
In truth, Sport reported three weeks ago that Blues were about to prevail after ‘advanced discussions’ with Barcelona for a £67.6m deal.
De Jong has participated in all three of Barcelona’s La Liga games this season, starting one, which seems to imply that he would remain at the Nou Camp, but nothing materialised, and the speculation has since died down.
On the other hand, rumours on Twitter on Monday indicated that the Dutchman was travelling to London from Barcelona and caused some to speculate that a last-minute transfer to Stamford Bridge would be in the works.

After Xavi gave De Jong a few days off after their match against Real Valladolid on Sunday, Fabrizio Romano tweeted that De Jong was merely visiting the capital for a vacation, emphatically saying that it is “not transfer linked.”
He said to GIVEMESPORT: “I’m sure you followed the social media craze when he was seen with his partner arriving at the Barcelona airport before a journey to London with curiosity as well.
“So, based on all indications, he is currently in London, and people were connecting the dots and asking: Is he going to the headquarters of Manchester United, Liverpool, or is he going to sign for Chelsea?
“What we do know is that the Barcelona team received two days off following the Sunday game. He also made the decision to travel to London for that vacation, albeit I’m not clear why he opted to go to the centre of the storm.
“Now, regardless of whether there is anything else to it, Barcelona says to be in the nation just in case something happens.”
Chelsea is reportedly close to adding anyone else
Tuchel wants to add at least two players before tomorrow at 11 p.m., but a midfielder now seems doubtful.
One of them is Wesley Fofana, whose high-profile transfer from Leicester is about to be finalised after the Frenchman passed the second portion of his physical on Monday.
Meanwhile, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a former Arsenal star, is still being pursued by Chelsea in an effort to improve their striker options.
