Bruno Guimaraes haș joked that he would have 20 assists a season if Erling Haaland was at Newcastle United.
The Newcastle midfielder was speaking to the Premier League’s official Youtube channel and was asked to pick his dream five a side team.
Allan Saint-Maximin and Nick Pope actually made it into Guimaraes’ selection, alongside Thiago Silva.
But the Brazilian was in no doubt over who he was taking to play up-front.
Bruno Guimaraes praises Erling Haaland
“He’s a monster. He’s an amazing player. If I played with him, I’d finish 20 assists a season,” he said.
Of course, the prospect of seeing Haaland strutting his stuff alongside Guimaraes at St. James’ Park would be a dream for Newcastle fans.
But there seems to be no chance of the pair actually playing together for the Magpies – at least any time soon, anyway!
Haaland has destroyed Premier League defences with Man City this season, where he has blasted in 20 goals in just 14 games.
Guimaraes, meanwhile, has been in wonderful form at Newcastle – even if his assist totals aren’t as high as they might have been with Haaland on Tyneside.
Guimaraes currently has three assists to his name.
The combative midfielder can hardly complain at his striking options at Newcastle, though.
Callum Wilson remains one of the deadliest finishers in England when fit, and Alexander Isak and Chris Wood have also proved useful at different stages of the season.
It may not be too long before Newcastle have another number nine in their ranks either.
Eddie Howe’s men have been linked with signing a new striker with the January transfer window now on the horizon and it would not be a major surprise if PIF opened their cheque book to improve Newcastle’s attacking depth even further next month.
