PSV’s Anwar El Ghazi
Report on Progress… Anwar El Ghazi, a Villa alumnus
Anwar El Ghazi, who left Aston Villa as a cult figure last summer, is now starting a new chapter in his career with PSV.
El Ghazi is in his peak at the age of 27, and PSV is reaping the benefits of his brilliance in the Eredivisie this season. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team also competes in the Europa League, where El Ghazi has excelled this season.
El Ghazi departed Villa in August for a fee of £3.5 million plus add-ons, returning to his home Egypt following a four-year spell in Birmingham. He has three goals in six league games this season as PSV competes for the Eredivisie crown with Ajax.
El Ghazi has one goal in four Europa League games and helped PSV upset Premier League leaders Arsenal 2-0 earlier this week. In the Netherlands, he recovered his confidence and form in front of goal, and playing under Van Nistelrooy can’t hurt either.
Fabrizio Romano pours in on the €70 million Aston Villa trade, making a scathing remark about Steven Gerrard.
