Howe drops Guimaraes hint, 5 ruled out & new signing to return vs West Ham

With today’s midday kick-off against West Ham only a few hours away, it’s a good opportunity to review Eddie Howe’s latest pre-match press conference for early team news.

Starting with Bruno Guimaraes, Howe’s statements imply the Brazilian will return to the bench, claiming he will “start a lot of games for us” and be a “big player” before long.

Both Kieran Trippier and Javier Manquillo have been ruled out of the match. The latter’s ankle injury isn’t regarded to be significant, but he hasn’t trained all week and isn’t expected to play in this game, thus Emil Krafth is expected to start at right-back.

Signings are expected to begin in January in other parts of the country. After being ruled out of the match against Aston Villa, Matt Targett appears likely to return at left-back, although Callum Wilson, Federico Fernandez, and Matt Ritchie are still out.

Following overcome a sickness that held him out of last weekend’s game, Jamaal Lascelles is available, but there’s no certainty he’ll replace Dan Burn after the Geordie giants’ outstanding debut performance.

Howe had the following to say on Bruno, the defensive selection issues, and Manquillo’s ankle injury:

    Bruno Guimaraes, according to Howe:

“Bruno will be a major player for us and will start a lot of games for us.” I don’t believe watching and learning from the Premier League is a terrible thing for him, even though it may upset him because he wants to demonstrate his skill.”

On Manquillo and other ailments, Howe says:

“In the same game, (Javier) Manquillo was sent off after falling awkwardly on his ankle following a header.

“He tried but failed to continue. He hasn’t worked out this week.

“We don’t believe it’s severe, but he’ll be out of the (West Ham) game.” Aside from that, everything are as they were.”

Howe on the defensive alternatives now that Lascelles is back in the lineup and Burn is impressing:

“It’s a nice headache in terms of options.” Because you can only choose 11, they are tough for me to handle. But I appreciate tough decisions because they indicate that the players are in good shape and contributing to the team’s success.”

“I’ll have to make the best decision for the squad.” You want a group that is pushing and battling for each other – I think whomever plays understands that if they don’t perform, they will be replaced by a very talented player.”

On Matt Ritchie’s injury, Howe says:

“I don’t think he’s here for the long haul.”

“I believe Matt is in a good place and isn’t far away from returning.”

“It’s an odd injury with Matt; he was just striking a ball, and felt something in his knee.”says the coach.

“So he’s had a period of inactivity, but he’s running in a straight line again, and he’s getting closer to resuming full-time with the group.”

    “I don’t think he’ll take long.”
