Journalist Ben Jacobs has told The Football Terrace that Tottenham Hotspur remain calm about trying to agree a new contract with Harry Kane, and claimed that Spurs are ready to give the striker some control over football decisions during the second-half of the season.
Kane is one of the pivotal figures at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Of course, he is on the cusp of becoming the club’s all-time leading goalscorer. And he is in with a chance of enjoying his best campaign yet in the Premier League.
Keeping Kane appears to be absolutely vital for Tottenham if they are going to take that next step and end their current wait for a major trophy. But they are under a little pressure.

Tottenham remain calm over Kane contract situation
Kane is now 29. And his contract expires at the end of next season. So the key moment where he either signs a new deal or looks to move on is surely not too far away.
Unsurprisingly, Tottenham are determined to ensure that he stays. And Jacobs has now revealed that the Spurs hierarchy are ready to give the striker more of a say on what happens with the club in an attempt to convince him to stay.
“Tottenham remain calm about the Harry Kane contract situation. And the reason for that is because their approach to Kane, in terms of any possible new deal, is going to be around giving him that control of the football club, and that will extend to elements of the football side. I don’t think we’re quite going to be at Mbappe/PSG territory, but Tottenham are well aware that Harry Kane is at a crossroads,” he told The Football Terrace.
“I’m still told that the appeal of going to Bayern is not as strong as is being reported by some outlets. The desire from Bayern to take him over there is obviously quite high.
“I’m told by Spurs sources that anything Tottenham do, they want to go to Kane first, even if he hasn’t signed a deal. They want to seek the advice of Harry Kane so Kane gets this feeling in the second-half of the season that he’s a part of everything, that he’s integral to the decision-making.”
Spurs ready to hand striker a greater say
It obviously sounds particularly significant to offer Kane more of an influence on various decisions. But you would imagine that he is already having a say in some of the things Tottenham are doing.
Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici would have surely spoken to the England captain when they were making managerial appointments. His views may not have been decisive. But surely, it would have only been sensible to gauge how Kane felt about some of the critical decisions.
Kane is a future Tottenham captain. Hugo Lloris’ time at the club will come to an end sooner or later. And Spurs will hope that the striker is still there when the Frenchman does step aside.
If it helps Kane sign a new contract, offering him a greater say in decisions seems to make sense. Kane leaving will only make their task of trying to win trophies again all the more difficult.
Obviously, it comes with an element of risk. But holding onto Kane is surely the priority.
