Alan Shearer has named West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna in his Team of the Week for his performance in the 1-0 win against Fulham.
The Hammers picked up three crucial points en route to their quest to avoid relegation with them in 14th place in the table now.
The Italy defender was pivotal in helping David Moyes’ side keep a clean sheet at Craven Cottage.
Shearer told the Premier League’s official website, “What an imperious display from the West Ham centre-back as he helped his side claim a big win for David Moyes against Fulham.”
Good display
The Italy international is in his mid 30s but still managed to put in his best performance in a long time for the Hammers.
With Moyes’ job on the line, winning this game was of paramount importance and they did exactly that and Ogbonna played a key role in it.
He put his body on the line and his positional awareness was there for everyone to see and that was due to his experience of being in the game for nearly two decades.
There’s a reason why West Ham fans regard him so highly and he’s undoubtedly going down as a cult hero among the London Stadium faithful when he retires.
He is on his last legs so it remains to be seen how long he wants to stay in the game and whether or not the Hammers hierarchy retain his services.
Either way, there’s going to be only positive feelings as Ogbonna has given it all to the Hammers in the last few years.
