Pundit Garth Crooks have urged Tottenham Hotspur to immediately appoint Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager.
Crooks has been speaking to BBC Sport about Tottenham’s situation after a shock defeat to Bournemouth.
Spurs just couldn’t top shooting themselves in the foot; they were 1-0 up, 2-1 down, back to 2-2 late on and then somehow lost it 3-2 in injury-time.
Tottenham just seem to be completely rudderless right now and former Spurs striker Crooks thinks the call to Pochettino must come now.
Crooks has suggested that Tottenham’s season is simply ‘falling part’ and that chairman Daniel Levy ‘hasn’t got a clue’ what to do next.
Crooks offered Levy some firm advice, telling him to appoint Pochettino ‘immediately’ in order to get fans on board.
The ex-Tottenham striker doesn’t even think a deal would be difficult, suggesting that Pochettino should be given a deal until the end of the season with a huge bonus and a two-year extension if the Argentinian can finish in the top four.
“This can’t go on. Tottenham’s season is falling apart,” said Crooks. “They have sacked Antonio Conte for telling the truth about his team and the culture of the club, and installed coach Cristian Stellini as interim manager because chairman Daniel Levy hasn’t got a clue what to do next.”
“Well, permit me to give him a little advice: install Mauricio Pochettino immediately to bolster the fans and reassure the players on a contract until the end of the season. If he can secure Spurs a top-four spot he gets a big, fat bonus and a two-year contract and enough time to win a trophy or he’s gone. Is that difficult?” he added.Photo by Marcio Machado/Eurasia Sport Images/Getty Images
Fans want Mauricio Pochettino but Tottenham don’t seem to agree
Spurs fans were chanting for Pochettino during Saturday’s defeat to Bournemouth and the chants probably won’t end there.
Tottenham supporters have been clear; they want Pochettino and believe he should be the top target to replace Conte.
Pochettino is out of work having left Paris Saint-Germain last season and he is quite simply the best Tottenham manager have had in a long time.
An emotional return just seems ideal in the eyes of fans but Tottenham don’t seem to be on the same page.
The noises coming out of Tottenham continue to suggest that Tottenham aren’t focusing their attention on a deal for Pochettino.
Make no mistake; if Spurs go in another direction and the new appointment proves to be a flop like Nuno Espirito Santo, then Tottenham fans will be fuming at passing up on Pochettino.
