Latest Aston Villa News: Jeff Stelling slams Matty Cash booking after Aston Villa star reveals Ukraine message
After scoring in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Brighton at the Amex, Aston Villa defender Matty Cash sent a message of encouragement to Poland international teammate Tomasz Kedziora.
With a beautiful attempt from outside the box that arrowed past Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez as the ball banged into the post and into the back of the net, Cash scored the game’s first goal.
During the festivities that followed, the Villa right-back removed his jersey to reveal a message that read: “Tomasz Kedziora + family remain strong dear sibling.”
Kedziora is a player of Dynamo Kyiv, and several other Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk players have been stuck in the war-torn areas.
After the government proclaimed martial law in response to the Russian invasion, all matches in the Ukrainian Premier League were stopped indefinitely on Thursday.
Cash was applauded by fans and journalists for his homage, but he was issued a citation for removing his shirt.
Jeff Stelling, a Sky Sports presenter, has petitioned with the Premier League to get his yellow card expunged.
“It’s a message for people in Ukraine and he’s been booked for it,” Stelling slammed on Sky Sports.
“Look, John Brooks is an inexperienced Premier League referee. Hopefully, when people come to their senses, the Premier League will just ignore that, they should just ignore that.”
