According to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Memphis Depay will leave Barcelona for Atletico Madrid today, and this will come as a blow for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported that Atletico will complete the signing of former Manchester United forward Depay from Barcelona today.
Romano has said that there are no problems whatsoever in the deal, and that everything has been agreed by the three parties.
And this will come as a blow for Arsenal and Newcastle.
That’s because both Arsenal and Newcastle have been linked with the Netherlands international forward in the January transfer window.

Sport reported in November 2022 that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United want to sign Depay from Barcelona in the January transfer window.
It is also SPORT who claimed in December that Newcastle United are keen on securing the services of the 28-year-old.
There has also been speculation that Manchester United want to bring back Depay to Old Trafford, and that the forward himself is open to a return to Old Trafford.Photo by Xavier Bonilla/NurPhoto via Getty Images
However, according to Romano, Depay is on the verge of switching to former La Liga champions Atletico instead.
Arsenal could do with a new forward now due to the injury to Gabriel Jesus, while Newcastle do need to sign a player upfront as they have decided to let Chris Wood leave for Nottingham Forest on a loan deal.
