There are only minor details left to be ironed out but Mateusz Bogusz “will be transferred” by Leeds United, according to Matteo Moretto.
The Italian journalist followed up his own report from Monday night (20 March) the following morning to clarify that it is LAFC, rather than cross-town rivals Los Angeles Galaxy as he had originally reported, that will be the Pole’s destination.
But he confirmed that the move will happen once “small fringes” of the deal are completed, with agreement having been reached with UD Ibiza where he is on loan and both clubs due to receive a “good amount” in compensation.
Reporting via Twitter on Tuesday morning (21 March) Moretto wrote: “Mateusz Bogusz is about to go to MLS and sign for LAFC. NOT Los Angeles Galaxy.
“The young Pole will be transferred by Leeds. He is on loan in Ibiza. Small fringes are missing.
“The Ibizan club will receive a good amount for his transfer along with the English club.”
Matter of time
With the clarification that it is LAFC who will complete the deal for the 21-year-old everything falls into place more logically.
The eight-year-old club has been trailing the attacking midfielder since the end of the January transfer window [Sportowe Fakty, 30 January] and so are clearly taken by the youngster.
They are evidently willing to put up an offer that satisfied both Leeds United and Ibiza enough to get what could have been a complicated three-way arrangement in place.
The MLS champions would certainly look like a step up from fighting a relegation battle in the Spanish second tier, so the move is a positive for Bogusz as well.
With his current side actually a few months younger than LAFC he has the chance to have an impact on the early years of two teams to start his career, having made 46 appearances over the best part of two seasons on the Spanish island.
He had less influence at Elland Road after his 2019 arrival, making just three senior appearances, but it looks like a satisfactory outcome has been reached all round once the final details are worked out and this deal goes through.
