Leeds United have shown an interest in signing Dinamo Zagreb defender Josip Sutalo with Arsenal also keen.
That is according to Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti, who claim that Leeds are ready to bid for Sutalo.
It’s stated that Leeds will put around €16million (£14million) on the table to try and sign Sutalo.
However, Sutalo wouldn’t even think about joining Leeds if they end up in the Championship.
Sam Allardyce has now been appointed to try and guide Leeds to safety.
If Leeds do stay up, fans would be looking for defensive signings to try and strengthen a leaky back line.
Robin Koch’s contract is a concern too, so a right-footed replacement – like Sutalo – would make sense.
Leeds fans will though have bad memories about trying to sign a Dinamo Zagreb defender.
The Whites pushed to sign Josko Gvardiol back in 2020 but ended up losing out to RB Leipzig.
Gvardiol has become a star in Germany and is now one of the most highly-rated defenders in Europe.
Leeds may hope for better luck with their pursuit of Sutalo, but Arsenal are lurking.
Arsenal also want Leeds United target Josip Sutalo
Sportske Novosti’s report claims that Arsenal are willing to pay more than Leeds for Sutalo.
It’s suggested that the Gunners are prepared to pay €20million (£17.5million) to sign the Croatian this summer.
Arsenal would like to sign another right-footed centre back this summer to add cover for William Saliba.
Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi has been linked but Sutalo is on the radar too.
Sportske Novosti claimed last week that Arsenal were sending a scout to watch Sutalo in action for Dinamo against Varazdin.
The Gunners seem to be serious with their interest and this could be a difficult fight for Leeds to win.
