Latest Tottenham Hotspur News: Less foolish – Fabrizio Romano reveals what Levy told Conte after outburst
Tottenham Hotspur’s leadership informed Antonio Conte that he is the appropriate man for the position, according to Fabrizio Romano, and requested him to be more calm in his post-match interviews.
Conte’s post-match press conference after Tottenham’s loss to Burnley on Wednesday sparked a lot of debate (Football.London).
The Italian seemed to imply that he might not be the best guy to turn Tottenham’s fortunes around, and that his job should be reconsidered.
On Thursday, The Sun claimed that Daniel Levy wanted to meet with Conte in order to persuade the 52-year-old that he is the man who can assist the North London side win silverware.
The discussion seems to have had the desired effect, as Spurs’ head coach was considerably calmer at his news conference on Friday (via Tottenham’s YouTube page), when he emphasized that the club values the job he has done in his four months in command.
Romano has now clarified what was stated during Conte’s meeting with Spurs chairman.
“From Tottenham’s side, they want to go together with him,” the journalist remarked on his YouTube channel.
“However, they want him to be more comfortable and respond less foolishly, which is why Conte apologized.
“At the same time, he wants Tottenham to think with a winning mentality and to push forward.”
Following our loss to Burnley, I was outraged with Conte’s statements, but I was relieved to see that he explained himself on Friday and admitting that he became emotional after another setback.
Hopefully, this is the last of his post-match rants, since I don’t believe expressing his dissatisfaction or fury in public benefits anybody at the club.
