It was announced earlier this summer that a number of Reds players would be departing when their contracts ended at the end of last month. Ben Woodburn, the team’s smallest-ever goal scorer, was one of them.
Following a trial with the Championship team, Preston North End has now offered Woodburn a one-year contract. In 2018, he made his final senior Liverpool appearance.

At the Reds, Woodburn and Alexander-Arnold rose through the junior ranks. In the 2016–17 season, both players made their debuts for the senior squad, with Woodburn adding his name to Anfield’s history books with a goal against Leeds United in an EFL Cup match in November 2016. However, Alexander-Arnold is the one who has remained on the squad.
Woodburn bid adieu to Liverpool in an Instagram message earlier this week. The Wales international thanked everyone at the club for their support throughout the formative years of his career in the statement.
“16 years at this incredible club!” wrote Woodburn. I appreciate everything. In a brief reply to the letter, Alexander-Arnold wrote: “My brother what a journey,” followed by a heart emoji.g

Not just Alexander-Arnold, but other Reds players also commented on Woodburn’s tweet. Jordan Henderson, the team’s captain, added his congratulations and wished the 22-year-old well in the future. Best wishes, mate,” Henderson responded.
Messages of luck were also sent to Woodburn by players including Owen Beck, Conor Bradley, Harvey Davies, Nat Phillips, and Billy Koumetio.
