Latest Chelsea News: Liverpool, Man United legends slam Roman Abramovich over Chelsea’s statement
The liverpool and Manchester United legends are not supporting the call, Roman Abramovich made with the Chelsea club regarding his ownership.
Legends from Liverpool and Manchester United have criticised Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich for his remarks in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

On Saturday, Abramovich issued a statement on his ownership of Chelsea.
Abramovich claimed he is “giving trustees of Chelsea’s charitable foundation the stewardship and care” of the Blues in a statement released Saturday evening.
Despite demands for him to sell the club following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Russian oligarch remains the team’s owner, according to the release.
And now, Neville has slammed Abramovich’s gesture, stating it was evident that the Russian billionaire is still in command, while Carragher felt Chelsea had “embarrassed themselves” by making the remark.
“One of the smartest things that I think Roman Abramovich has done over the last 20 years is not to speak, not to make statements,” Neville stated on Sky Sports.
“Because his remarks last night raised more questions than it answered.
“I thought it was a cowardly approach to sort of throw a hospital pass to good people on the charitable and foundation board, when it’s clear he runs the club with Marina [Granovskaia, club director] and [technical and performance advisor] Petr Cech.”
“There’s no way that Chelsea’s charitable foundation is running the club, and I’m not sure why Roman Abramovich said that.”
“If he wanted to make a statement, it would have been about whether he supports or opposes the war in Ukraine.”
“I don’t think they’ve dealt with it particularly well,” Carragher stated. I think they’ve let themselves down tremendously with a few of remarks they’ve released.
“I don’t think they did either.”
“It hasn’t gone well for them; I believe they have embarrass themselves.” They should have been far more forceful in their statements, and Roman Abramovich’s transfer to Chelsea trustees is not the same as his abandoning control of the club; stewardship is not the same as ownership. It’s distinct is that It’s completely different because he is still in charge, he is still running it, which is fine.
But I felt it was incredibly terrible of him not to address what was going on in Ukraine in his original remark.”
