Leeds: Wolves get a clue from Perkins before their match
A first goal for Mitoma in the Premier League.
Joe Donohue, a writer for the Yorkshire Evening Post, claims that the centre striker is in with a chance of travelling to Molineux with the senior team tonight evening despite being confined to a ten-minute substitute cameo in the young Whites’ 4-2 triumph against Newcastle United U21s on Monday.
Donohue stated the following on the club’s talented young players: “[Leo] Hjelde and [Wilfried] Gnonto have both made first-team appearances this season, while [Darko] Gyabi and [Mateo] Joseph have been selected on the substitutes’ bench by Marsch but have yet to make their senior debuts.
While Perkins has not been included in a matchday roster, he may be on the road with the team on Wednesday.
Next-in-line to the Bamford fortune
Marsch may have found the long-term successor to the injury-prone Leeds centre striker Patrick Bamford by starting Perkins tonight against Wolves. Hay recently reported that Bamford is likely to remain out until club football resumes after the World Cup.
Indeed, the 18-year-old wonder has been on fire since moving to Thorp Arch on a free transfer this summer, netting seven times in nine Premier League 2 appearances for the U21s and adding another goal in three Papa John’s Trophy games.
The youthful striker has also been impressive for England’s U19s this season, as he has netted five times and assisted on another in three games for Ian Foster’s squad. This means that the teenager has made a direct goal contribution once per 82 minutes of football played so far in 2022/23.
Since Bamford, who has yet to score for the club, is expected to miss significant time due to injury, it seems probable that the £1 million-rated Perkins will step in to play for the first team until the England international returns in December.
Given how difficult it has been for Leeds’ number nine Bamford to get up to full fitness this season, it’s possible that the 18-year-old might wind up stealing his starting position away from him on a far more frequent basis should the “dangerous” striker shine against Wolves tonight.
