Leeds United could spark a bidding war for Illan Meslier as Manchester United and Chelsea are both keen on signing the Frenchman.
According to Media Foot [12 December], the 22-year-old is “clearly on his way out” of Elland Road with the two clubs circling over a potential move in January or the summer.
By the looks of it, the Whites have already begun planning for life after Meslier as the same publication has reported a major transfer development.
They now are claiming that the Whites have already made a move for Dinamo Zagreb goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic who’s been starring for Croatia at the World Cup.
It’s understood that they even have even touched base with the player’s agent so it’s pretty evident that they’re preparing a backup plan in the case of Meslier leaving.
Last October, The Athletic’s Phil Hay claimed that it will cost over £50million to lure Meslier away from Elland Road.
Despite it being little over a year, there’s nothing to suggest that his value will have declined and with two super-rich clubs owned by billionaires in Manchester United and Chelsea, Leeds must not lower their demands.
It remains to be seen if they come in with offers for the 22-year-old in January or properly look to pursue his services over a three-month period in the summer.
Regardless, it’s good to see Leeds having a replacement plan ready and while they would want to retain Meslier’s services, it may be difficult to keep him if he wants to leave.
