Newcastle has some “interest” in Barkley as a possible replacement for Maddison.
Ross Barkley is allegedly a target for Newcastle United after leaving Chelsea.
Dean Jones, a transfer source, told Give Me Sport that the Magpies could try to get Barkley instead of James Maddison.
Maddison has reportedly proved difficult for the Magpies to welcome to St James’ Park. Leicester has turned down two offers and is seeking £60 million for the 25-year-old.
It is unclear if Newcastle will make a third offer because it is a big sum of money to invest on a single player. It would be surprising in a summer when the Toon owners are trying to be careful not to overpay, it would be a surprise to see them offer more than £50million for Maddison.
Although it would be a complete fantasy to see the England international join Newcastle, a move still seems far-fetched at this point.

It goes without saying that Leicester doesn’t want to lose one of its star players, so Eddie Howe may have to go elsewhere. Dean Jones also predicts that attention may shift to Stamford Bridge.
Ross Barkley is of interest to Newcastle.
According to Jones’ statement to Give Me Sport, Newcastle is also interested in Barkley.
If the bids for James Maddison do not pan out, he said, “I have heard that Newcastle is showing some interest in Ross Barkley.
“Nothing has happened yet, but it appears that there are roadblocks with him returning to Everton.”
Respectfully, switching from Madison to Barkley would be considered a significant step backwards. Since making his Premier League debut, Maddison’s star has been steadily rising, while Barkley’s has been tumbling.
He returned to Chelsea last year but hardly played after playing for Aston Villa on loan during the COVID season. In all, he only participated in 14 events.
It did seem like he would re-sign with Everton this summer, but that doesn’t seem to be the case now.
Return of Everton is no longer anticipated.
The Toffees were reportedly in advanced negotiations to bring Barkley back to Goodison Park, according to a story from last week. According to 90min, the 28-year-old was eager.
A Merseyside reunion, meanwhile, doesn’t appear likely. According to The Mirror, returning to Everton is not an option.
Should we be doing that, though, as it could allow Newcastle to move? In January, just after the takeover, he could have been a decent addition, but a lot has changed at St James’ Park since then.
Barkley is a very talented footballer who once had the ability to produce magical moments, but it’s been a very long time since we’ve seen that player consistently.
Going from Maddison to Barkley would send the wrong message and is quite improbable.
