Newcastle News: Hoddle has a theory about what Eddie Howe told Jonjo Shelvey
Jonjo Shelvey, according to Glenn Hoddle, has played a key role in Newcastle United’s recent recovery.
Following a talk with Eddie Howe about a critical role to make the team ‘click well,’ Glenn Hoddle feels Jonjo Shelvey has ‘transformed’ Newcastle United.
Next his hiring in November, the head coach instantly recognized the Magpies’ playmaker as a crucial component in his plans, and the 29-year-old has started all but one of the following 14 games.
Shelvey has built an excellent midfield combination with Joelinton and Joe Willock, and their recent performances have prevented Bruno Guimaraes from making his full black-and-white debut.

Willock made headlines after striking the equalizer in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against West Ham, while Joelinton’s miraculous metamorphosis continues to get considerable acclaim.
Former England manager and Tottenham icon Hoddle, on the other hand, has cited Shelvey as the most crucial figure in the Magpies’ recent resurgence.
With the draw in London, United extended their Premier League undefeated run to six games, and the commentator claims Howe had an early meeting with the midfielder to clarify his crucial position in his plans.
“They seem like a team now,” he told Premier League Productions. Eddie Howe couldn’t get on the training ground with them when he initially went there because he had Covid.
“They lost a few of key guys, so it was a bit of a jumble.” Now that he’s had some time to sit and calm them down once the transfers arrived, and work on the training ground, they appear to be a team. Without those three key players, the team would be in serious trouble.
“I believe he sat Shelvey down and told him, ‘You’re my cup of tea.'” Fair right, he wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but you’re a player, and I want footballers in my midfield.

But you must be responsible in that position, you must protect the centre-backs, and you must drop in there. Even if you’re not a goal scorer, you’ll hit a couple 30-yarders.
“He’s the one who, in my opinion, has revolutionized and made that team click. He may not score or create goals, but he keeps the team going and is a good footballer.”
After scoring his first goal of the season at the London Stadium, Willock was singled out for appreciation by Newcastle icon Alan Shearer.
The pressure from January signings Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff on the sidelines, according to Hoddle, has helped the 22-year-old regain his best form.
“They look like a team today, they really do,” he said, “and there’s competition for positions there.” Willock, I believe, began to play like he did at the conclusion of last season, when he was scoring goals.
“He appeared to be in good hands in the team.” Now he’s looking over his shoulder, thinking, “I have to perform in order to stay on the squad, look what occurred.”
