When Newcastle United’s new owners took over the club little over a year ago, they inherited a number of business ties.
One of them was a “multi-year contract” with Castore, which was struck last year when the sportswear company took over as the club’s shirt maker from Puma. Castore also took over management of the St James’ Park club shop.
Since the takeover last year, fans have been discussing the agreement with Castore.
Newcastle’s ambitious new owners want to boost commercial profits, but there are financial ramifications for teams that buy themselves out of commercial partnerships.
Last month, the club’s chief executive officer, Darren Eales, was asked whether the club planned to “replace” Castore. On social media, United supporters have criticised the company’s customer service.
Eales, who previously worked for Adidas at Atlanta United, revealed that his immediate goal was a “enhanced” connection with Manchester-based Castore, whose co-founder Tom Beahon was present at St James’s Park for the club’s triumph over Chelsea earlier this month.
“Obviously, I’ve just recently joined the club, and Castore are our present partners,” Eales told BBC Radio Newcastle. “They’re our partners for a contractually agreed-upon term.
“They are a firm that I intend to visit.” I want to communicate with them and strive to be the greatest partners we can be with them, and vice versa. I’m a firm believer in the importance of communication.
“From my standpoint, we have Castore as a partner who has showed dedication to the club since before I arrived, before ownership arrived.”
“And, from my viewpoint, they’ve been fantastic club partners, but we’ll keep looking because there’s always room for improvement.”
“‘How can we assist Castore?'” ‘How can Castore assist the club?’ We collaborate and are partners. The better we can accomplish for both sides, the better.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United will change jersey sponsors at the conclusion of the season. FUN88, a sports betting and online gambling company, has sponsored the club since 2017.
A number of new commercial arrangements have recently been revealed by the club.
