Several players, some more realistically than others, are still being connected to Newcastle United throughout the summer transfer season.
According to sources in Italy, Newcastle United is still interested in Atalanta attacker Duvan Zapata.
Even after Chris Wood’s £25 million deal from Burnley, the Colombian international was linked to a move to St James’ Park during the January transfer window.
Eddie Howe is eager to add another center-forward to his squad before the summer transfer window closes, which has led to the rumor’s resurgence in recent days.
Wood and Callum Wilson are Howe’s current options, although it’s known United want to bring in a younger back-up.
Hugo Ekitike, a star for Reims, met that description, and a contract appeared to be on the table before he turned down his agent’s high demands.
The story by Fabrizio Carcano of Il Giorno is immediately called into question since Zapata, who is 31 years old, is the exact reverse of that.
Newcastle allegedly “came back strong” for Zapata, despite Howe being aware of the player’s troubling injury history from the previous campaign.
If Newcastle were to surprise try to sign the striker, it is said that Serie A is asking for £34 million.
Zapata may play when United host Atalanta in a preseason friendly at St. James’ Park at the end of the month.
