This is the latest Newcastle united News around with Saint-Maximim being involved in a controversial claims which has cost steer in the dressing room.
Allan Saint-Maximin’s comments on his lack of assists will not cause any upset in the Newcastle United dressing room, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England defender insisted Saint-Maximin’s controversial comments were “misinterpreted”.
The 25-year-old told French magazine So Foot on Wednesday (4 May) claimed he would have 15 assists this season if his teammates were capable of finishing the chances he creates.
On Friday (6 May), he tweeted it has been “taken out of context” and he was looking forward to the team progressing so he could reach new heights personally.
As quoted by ChronicleLive the same day, Eddie Howe revealed the winger had explained himself and would not face any punishment.
“It’s always a French magazine or a Spanish magazine or an Italian magazine,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“The freedom that they speak with, the language that they use and the way that it is misinterpreted with a different tone and dialect mean it comes across badly.
“He’s not wrong in saying ‘Sometimes I put balls in the box and they are not finished. If we had Harry Kane I’d have 15 assists this season’. He’s right.
“When you read it in black and white it looks far worse than it actually is.
“Chris Wood is not the greatest striker in the world, Callum Wilson hasn’t been up front for the majority of the season.
“We don’t know what question he was asked to get that answer.

“I don’t think he’s done it deliberately or intentionally. There’s a translation issue, a context issue and a dialect issue.
“If I was playing right-wing and you asked ‘Would you like more assists this season?’ Then you’re going to say ‘Yes, I’ve created chances but they’ve got to put it in the back of the net. Look at the chances I’ve created, 30, and I’ve got two assists. It’s not my fault’.
“You’re not having a go at anyone, it becomes facts.”
