Newcastle United won’t give up in pursuit of Botman as talks continues
Botman remained at Lille despite a £50 million bid for the Holland Under-21 international failing to persuade the Ligue 1 club to transfer him this winter.
Lille and Botman’s agency Muy Manero, on the other hand, left the door open for Lille and Botman’s agent Muy Manero to return with a summer offer.
According to Chronicle Live, Amanda Staveley and the Toon board were interested in Botman and were willing to compete with AC Milan and Spurs to recruit him.
The Ripon financier was a key figure in the club’s January transfer effort, and he feels Botman is the kind of European player the club should be pursuing these days.
Newcastle can also blast both Milan and Tottenham out of the water in terms of pay, but the issue will be whether Botman views the Magpies as real Premier League challengers or not.
Since then, Newcastle has signed Brazilian superstar Bruno Guimaraes, who believes in the idea at St James’ Park and is unconcerned about the decrease.
“Everyone talks about Newcastle – it’s all about money,” Botman remarked last month.
“However, when you consider where Man City and PSG started, it’s a pretty great idea.” It would be fantastic to be a part of that, but Milan is a fantastic club.”
In Italy, Milan is battling for the championship and will most likely be able to give Botman Champions League football next season.
For the time being, Botman must concentrate on his duties at Lille, who are currently in 10th position in Ligue 1, not to mention their Champions League last-16 encounter against Chelsea.
Botman is well aware that the focus will be on him for the two legs of the Euro tie, and Newcastle scouts will be adding to their dossier on the defender as well.
United is also interested in Seville’s Diego Carlos, with the club believing that center-back is an area that has to be reinforced.
There have been negotiations with Fabian Schar, who will shortly be out of contract, but the Switzerland international will be hoping for a hefty offer as he approaches his 31st birthday later this year.
