The recruitment of a young right back is reportedly “top of the desired list” for the next January transfer window, with a “creative and defensive midfielders” also being considered.
They further explain that our primary goal is to strengthen our bench in critical positions in case important players like Kieran Trippier or Bruno Guimaraes go hurt.
The team is currently thin at right back. Due to Emil Krafth’s long-term injury, Javier Manquillo has stepped in to replace Trippier. It is expected that we will recruit a young deputy to learn from our seasoned vice captain, who will turn 33 the following year.
This would bolster our recent rumours of signing U23 prospects Harrison Ashby (21) from West Ham and Cody Drameh (20) from Leeds, who are both willing to learn from one of England’s best full-backs without expecting to see significant playing time right away. According to the latest reports in The Telegraph, both could be worth keeping an eye on come January.
It seems more likely that acquiring a creative and defensive midfielder would be more of a priority in the summer, barring the appearance of an offer too good to pass up in the coming months.
To that end, we’ve established numerous connections with the likes of James Maddison, Andrey Santos, and Máximo Perrone.
