Phil Hay wowed by ‘consistently entertaining’ ace after ‘proper cool’ outing v Cardiff

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay was left amazed by Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto after his performance v Cardiff in the FA Cup.

Leeds United’s performance on 9 January left much to be desired but Hay tried to pluck some positives from the chaotic Cardiff City Stadium scenes.

The journalist confessed that Gnonto is a “proper cool” little player who is providing “consistently entertaining” outings for Jesse Marsch’s side.

“Good things about yesterday – Gnonto is a proper cool little player,” exclaimed Hay on Twitter (9 January).

“Skill and brains, going to be consistently entertaining to watch.”

Good things about yesterday – Gnonto is a proper cool little player, skill and brains, going to be consistently entertaining to watch. Rodrigo's influence seems to be coming on stronger. I like Gyabi too. Think he'll get better the more he gets pushed.

    Gnonto gets it.

Chasing, harrying, running after balls and refusing to give up until the final whistle is blown, Gnonto gets what it means to be a Leeds United player.

Hay is completely correct here, his explosive performances thus far in a White shirt suggest there will be many more entertaining outings from the Italian.

The youngster never seems to let his head drop in times of adversity and this is a priceless trait to have in the harsh and cruel Premier League calendar.

And his unfearing determination will be needed in the coming weeks if Marsch is to cling onto his hot seat any further than January.

He will be hot property soon, it’s hard not to imagine that the Premier League vultures and juggernauts of lands beyond West Yorkshire will come calling for Gnonto in the coming years.

His ceiling is high and he simply looks that good, kudos to Victor Orta for unearthing this fine gem of a player, one that could be one of his finest by the time he leaves Elland Road.
