We’re excited to have former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson join our team as a weekly contributor to our exclusive column, where he’ll share his thoughts on the most important topics at Leeds United.
In light of Leeds United’s impending full takeover by 49ers Enterprises, Gary Neville earlier this week issued a warning to American owners that they pose a threat to English football.
In accordance with a contract worth over £400 million, The Athletic claimed in 2017 that the investment arm of NFL team San Francisco 49ers had the option to purchase Andrea Radrizzani out of Leeds by January 2024.
The 49ers, led by vice-chairman Paraag Marathe of Leeds, now have a 44% stake in the Yorkshire team.
Although American ownership in English football is nothing new, there is undoubtedly a growing trend as Bill Foley, owner of the Vegas Golden Knights, is ready to acquire Bournemouth [Sky Sports].
The suggestion of an All-Star North vs. South match in the Premier League by Todd Boehly, who took over as Chelsea chairman earlier this year, has lately drawn harsh criticism.

The legendary Manchester United player Neville cautions that American ownership is harmful for English football and has been outspoken in his criticism of the Glazer family’s dominance at Old Trafford.
Paul Robinson has ordered the 49ers and every other US owner to quit attempting to change things, but he is open to American investors in the Premier League.
He said: “Listen, there are more and more Americans entering the game,” according to MOT Leeds News.
“From a financial standpoint, it’s excellent and great for the game.
“Obviously, they operate differently, and there have been problems at Manchester United with the Glazers.
“But, you know, football is football, and it shouldn’t ever be re-rooted.
“Trying to play it in multiple forms doesn’t work.
“What we have is effective. Keep it that way; it’s the finest league and the best game in the world.
It’s just nonsense (the plans for an All-Star game). It’ll never, ever work.“
